The beaches of Papudo
Billiken describes Papudo's beaches as sheltered, with gentle waves and an ideal setting for children, unlike the open, windy beaches common on the Chilean coast. Playa Grande and Playa Chica are the ones suitable for swimming:
| Beach | What it is like | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Playa Grande | The main beach, with fine sand, along the waterfront; calmer and safer for swimming than others in the region | Families, walks and sunsets |
| Playa Chica | South of town, next to the fishing cove, small and sheltered | Swimming with children, water sports and diving |
| Los Lilenes (El Lilén) | To the north, with fine sand, clear water and surrounding woodland | Walks, birdwatching and relaxing |
| Playa Durazno | Further north, reached on foot; no services | Solitude and sunset |
| Playillas and Salinas de Pullally | Smaller beaches in the municipality | Exploring the coast by car |
Sources: Wikipedia, Billiken and Diario UNO. Los Lilenes is the subject of a dispute over a five-house project that the community is trying to annul in court (Diario UNO, 21 February 2026). Although the bay is calm, only swim in areas with lifeguards and a green flag.
