What the Across Andes 2026 route is like

Across Andes is not a classic stage race: it is a gravel and bikepacking event, meaning each rider decides when to rest, how to navigate and where to eat, as long as they finish within 128 hours. About 70% of the route is dirt road and 30% paved, with more than 12,000 metres of cumulative climbing, according to Temuco Televisión.

What Across Andes means for tourism in Pucón and La Araucanía

With around 1,000 people on the move, the week of 22 November will bring demand for lodging, food, transport and technical support in Pucón and the villages along the route. If you are arriving in Pucón those days, book ahead and expect activity in the main square and on the roads out of town on the morning of Sunday 22.

For travellers who are not racing, the route is also a great trip idea: the same dirt roads between volcanoes, lakes and native forest can be explored by car or bike at your own pace. Our guides to things to do in Pucón, Conguillío National Park and Llaima volcano, the Seven Lakes route and Huilo Huilo reserve cover much of the area. For guided activities, see our guide to Pucón tours.

Tips for adventure cycling in southern Chile

  • Check the forecast: in late November it can be hot by day and cold on mountain passes.
  • Carry water and food for long stretches without services; shops are scarce on dirt roads.
  • Share your route and carry a location device if riding alone.
  • Follow national park rules and never light fires outside designated areas, in the middle of wildfire season.
  • If you book a guided activity, make sure the operator is registered with Sernatur, as we explained after the Maipo river tragedy.
