Elqui Valley stargazing tour

The stargazing tour starts on Calle O'Higgins in Pisco Elqui: first sunset over the foothills, then a natural observatory outside the village with a 20-inch telescope to see planets, clusters and galaxies. It lasts two and a half hours, has free cancellation up to 3 days before, and the listing says it is wheelchair accessible if you mention it when booking.

If you are staying in Vicuña, the listing mentions a version of the same experience from that town. To compare with tourist observatories such as Mamalluca, see our Elqui observatories guide.

Tips for your Elqui Valley tours

  • Moon: for stargazing, pick nights close to the new moon; a full moon washes out the stars.
  • Warm layers: the valley is hot by day but cools down at night; bring a jacket for the observation.
  • Drinking and driving: if you do the pisco route on your own, do not drive after tastings; that is what the tour is for.
  • Car: to move freely between La Serena and Pisco Elqui, see our guide to car rental in Chile.
  • Connectivity: signal is patchy in the upper valley; check which eSIM to use in Chile.
