SKY and GOL sign a codeshare: what changes for flying between Chile, Peru and Brazil

SKY Airline and Brazil's GOL announced on Monday, October 26, 2026 a codeshare agreement that will let passengers buy, in a single reservation, SKY flights to Brazil combined with GOL's domestic network, and GOL flights combined with SKY's domestic routes in Chile and Peru. A passenger will be able to travel, for example, from Puerto Montt to Recife or from São Paulo to Puerto Natales on one ticket, according to Aviacionline.

The agreement comes less than two months after SKY joined Grupo Abra, the holding company that controls GOL and Avianca, through a share swap closed in late August with the approval of the competition authorities of Brazil, Chile and Peru. SKY keeps its brand and its operational autonomy.

SKY flies to São Paulo (Guarulhos), Rio de Janeiro (Galeão), Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Brasília and Belo Horizonte, several of them only seasonally. From December 28 it adds a daily Lima-Rio de Janeiro flight, its second route from Lima to Brazil after São Paulo.

Why Brazil is key for SKY and for tourism in Chile

Pedro Navarro, SKY's director of routes, schedules and alliances, said the agreement allows the airline to "expand our coverage in Brazil, the most important market in the region". For Chilean tourism, Brazil is decisive too: in August 2026, 116,709 Brazilian tourists arrived, more than Argentines (62,054), as we reported in the August arrivals. The breakdown by country is in our ranking of foreign tourists in Chile by country.

Air traffic with Brazil, however, fell in September. According to the monthly report of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), flights between Chile and Brazil carried 239,535 passengers, 12.3% fewer than in September 2025, with declines in every city.

How SKY compares with LATAM and JetSMART

Its international passengers fell 22.1% compared with September 2025. With the alliance, SKY adds GOL's network in Brazil without having to operate those flights. The full figures are in our ranking of the airlines with the most passengers in Chile.

What passengers should know about the SKY-GOL codeshare

  • One reservation: baggage and changes are handled as a single trip when the ticket is bought as a combined itinerary, unlike two separate tickets.
  • Check who operates the flight: on a codeshare, a flight can carry a SKY number but be operated by GOL, or vice versa. Baggage and onboard service rules are those of the operating airline.
  • Connections in Santiago and Lima: for passengers coming from Brazil, connections to destinations such as Puerto Natales or Calama are made at those airports.
  • Compare before you buy: the announcement does not give fares; it is worth comparing with separate tickets and with other airlines, such as JetSMART, which also has flights between Santiago, Rio and Florianópolis.
