1. The Presence of Latin America mural
In the lobby of the University of Concepción's Casa del Arte is Presencia de América Latina, the mural by Mexican artist Jorge González Camarena, painted between November 1964 and April 1965. It is about 35 meters long and 6 meters high and was declared a Historic Monument in 2009, according to its Wikipedia entry. It is the city's most visited artwork; Casa del Arte opening hours are published on the university's channels.
2. The University of Concepción bell tower and campus
The campanil is the tower that identifies both the university and the city. The campus, with its lawns, forum and heritage buildings, is easy to explore on foot and connects with Casa del Arte, so these two can be done in the same morning.

3. Plaza de la Independencia and downtown
Plaza de la Independencia is the starting point of any walk: around it are the cathedral, pedestrian streets and downtown shops. It commemorates the proclamation of Chile's independence, signed in Concepción in 1818.
4. Cerro Caracol and Parque Ecuador
Cerro Caracol is the city's green lung. From Parque Ecuador, on the edge of downtown, trails climb through the forest to viewpoints over Concepción and the Biobío River. It is the free activity locals recommend most for an afternoon.
