The Concha y Toro winery welcomes visitors at its Centro del Vino (Wine Center) in Pirque, about 20 km from central Santiago, and its basic guided tour costs CLP 50,000 per person in 2026: it lasts 120 minutes and includes four glasses of wine. It is Chile's best-known winery abroad and one of the most visited: 230,000 people came to Pirque in 2024, according to Concha y Toro itself.

The Centro del Vino opened in July 2025, covers more than 12,000 m² and in October 2026 won South America's Leading Tourism Winery at the World Travel Awards, as we reported in Chile's World Travel Awards. Concha y Toro, founded in 1883 by Melchor Concha y Toro, is also the company behind Casillero del Diablo and Don Melchor.

What you see on a visit to the Concha y Toro winery

  • The historic park: 22 hectares of gardens around the family's former summer house, with the Casa Don Melchor, built in 1875 and designed by German architect Teodoro Burchard, according to Meteored.
  • The variety garden: a teaching vineyard with 24 wine grape varieties so you can see up close how they differ.
  • The Casillero del Diablo: the underground cellar where the main experience, “The Origin of a Legend”, ends.
  • The Bodega Concha y Toro: a reconstruction of a mid-19th-century cellar with temporary exhibitions by Chilean artists.
  • Restaurants: Bodega 1883 and La Gran Barra, on the Plaza Concha y Toro.

The legend of Casillero del Diablo

The story the winery tells is that Don Melchor kept his best bottles in an underground cellar and that they began to disappear. To keep thieves away, he spread the rumour that the devil himself guarded the place. That is how the brand got its name, according to Concha y Toro's blog. It is the company's own story, and today it is the most theatrical moment of the tour, with lights and projections inside the cellar.

Tips for the visit

  • Book several days ahead, especially in summer, on long weekends and at harvest time (March and April).
  • If you drive, do not drink: Chile's tolerance for alcohol at the wheel is very low; for a four-glass tasting, bring someone who will not drink or book a transfer.
  • Combine it with the valley: Pirque is at the entrance to the Cajón del Maipo; the Maipo valley has other wineries open to visitors, which we list in our wine route in Chile.
  • Beyond the Maipo: to explore Colchagua and the central valley by car, see our central valley and wineries road trip.
